Do you feel stuck in the past?
Memories of the past may keep you from living in the present... One moment you’re playing with your kids, talking to your spouse, or just out and about… and the next moment you’re having painful memories of events you wish would just go away. And when those memories come, it feels like you lose control of your body and mind. It just reacts in the moment, and it feels like there is little you can do. This is taking away from your being able to enjoy your life and feel excited about the future.
You do your best to put on a mask and pretend everything is okay, but you know your family and friends can see right through it.
They say you’re no longer yourself at that moment. You may even feel like they walk on eggshells around you, even if that’s the last thing you want.
Or perhaps you notice your brain fights with itself over how you think or feel about things… the “logical” part of your brain may know some of your fears aren’t based in reality anymore, but the traumatized part of your brain is too scared to let go. This makes it hard for you to trust people, be open to new experiences, and have healthy boundaries for yourself in relationships.
Helping you step forward from your past
Trauma therapy can help you to live life in the moment by healing past memories that still haunt you today.
Together, we’ll work on helping you learn how to identify what type of body, mind, and emotional responses are due to past trauma. You’ll then learn coping skills for trauma to help you feel more in control of how you respond. Finally, I’ll help you heal from those memories so they don’t affect you anymore.
As you continue to heal from those past events, you will feel more and more present in your own life. You’ll be back (or maybe for the first time ever!) in the driver's seat of your own life.

The length of time needed for trauma therapy is different for each person. People who have one or few traumatic events may need less time in therapy than those who have had multiple traumatic events in their life. This is also known as complex trauma.

We would first meet to discuss how trauma has affected your thoughts, emotions, and body, and under what circumstances trauma shows up for you. I would then teach you coping skills for trauma so you feel you have different tools to help ground yourself to the present when it appears. Once you have these strategies for staying in the moment, we would then work on healing the past memories through EMDR. Learn more about EMDR.
