Marriage counseling

Telehealth therapy for adults in Marion and across Ohio

Is your relationship stuck in the mud?

Maybe you keep thinking back to when you and your partner got along so well. You could just have fun together, and it wasn’t so much effort to connect and understand each other. But somehow along the way, that has changed. You wonder if you both can ever get back to that again.

Or perhaps you and your partner can’t get on the same page, and it’s like a never-ending, vicious cycle about the same issues over and over again. You feel like you both misunderstand and misinterpret what the other person is saying, and that’s keeping you both from finding answers. You may feel like your partner has become more like a roommate than your lover.

I can help you both get off the hamster wheel

You’ll learn new strategies to communicate in a healthier and more productive way with each other. You’ll also learn how to lower the amount of misinterpretations and miscommunications between you both. This can help tremendously to feel more connected to each other if you both feel heard and understood.

Here’s how I can help

  • I will talk to each of you about your views of your relationship, its strengths, and its weaknesses.

  • I will also talk to you both about your backgrounds, and the example of romantic relationships you had growing up. This is so important to know because examples of relationships growing up can really impact how you’re navigating your relationship with your own partner now!

  • I’ll also teach you both strategies for more effective communication so you both feel heard and understood.

  • In therapy, we’ll explore values that are important in your relationship to feel loved, and we will look at ways to ensure that both of your values for a relationship are being met.

It may seem like a lot to tackle, but I’ll be with you every step of the way! I’m simply a guide to helping you both get to where you want to be and feeling happy in your relationship again. Your relationship can get back to where it used to be-or be even better than it has ever been!

Marriage counseling is a good fit with me if…

  • You and your partner are both open-minded to make changes

  • You and your partner are willing to listen to each other’s thoughts and opinions, even if you don’t agree with them

  • You and your partner are open to trying the skills or activities discussed in therapy in your daily life

  • You and your partner are committed to making this relationship work

Marriage counseling isn’t a good fit with me if…

  • You or your partner aren’t interested in trying to make your relationship better by using new tools and perspectives learned in therapy.

  • You or your partner abuse alcohol or drugs/substances

  • You and/or your partner don’t feel safe in your home due to emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. If you don’t feel safe in your home, please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233.

Frequently Asked Questions about Marriage Counseling

  • No! I have worked with couples who are in relationships, engaged, or married. I am happy to work with any couple to get them where they want to be!

  • The length of time needed for marriage counseling depends on each couple. Some couples I will see for three to six months, while other couples may need over a year. The timeframe depends on a lot of different factors including the complexity of the issues, the partner's willingness to make changes, and the mental health of each person.

  • That’s okay! The only thing I ask is that both of you come in with an open-mind and are both willing to make changes to make your relationship better.

Your relationship is worth the investment.
